Here are some techniques you could use to add depth and interest:

adding reversed samples

copy a snare sound, reverse it (Kyeboardshortcut: R ) Move it aligning to the orignial. Also cool for snares, cymbals or kicks.

adding reversed Reverb

similar to the one above, but with much more sustain: Put reverb on a sound, flatten the track and reverse

crash cymbals or noise on the beginning of a new part

add effect automation

send it into Reverb / delay with automation!
