Session View

SESSION VIEW

The other view (or mode) of Ableton is called Session View and looks like this:

This does not work anymore from left to right. It is flipped and works from top to bottom. What you see are four tracks with “cells”, which are called clip slots. These are filled with clips. These clips are loops, so they dont stop unless you press stop. Only one clip can play at the same time in a track.

If you press the play button, you’ll notice that the play symbol starts blinking and on the next one of a bar the clip starts playing. Because they are launching on a grid, they stay in time.

Now, play around and you can find different combinations, you can start, stop, relaunch any clip.

SCENES

You can also trigger all clips of a row at once, if you press the play button on the rightmost track. These are called scenes. Those two views or modes interact with each other and this design is a fundamental concept of Ableton Live.

You can switch between those views with the buttons in the right top corner. or with the TAB key, marked on your keyboard.

PLAY!

Now if you are ready, open up the third set 03-perform-SessionMode and go to the next page
